Plenty of Space
The MYRC is an old grocery store with10,000 square feet of space. There are many large open spaces, but remodeling created small classrooms.
Equipment
The MYRC has lots of great equipment. Projectors, Screen, Big Screen TV, DVD Player, Karaoke, Pool Tables, Air Hockey Tables and others.
Great Facilities
We may be an old grocery store but we sure have come far, with a computer lab, craft room, working kitchen and bathrooms.
Great Prices
The MYRC has competitive prices on their rental fees, as well as a different fee schedule for non-profits and youth groups.

Did you know that our wonderful building, with its computer lab, craft room, kitchen bathrooms and more used to be a grocery store? Yes, infact many members of the community still call it the Old Kroger, or the Piggly Wiggly. What a long way we have come! |

Our target audience is middle school aged youth, however we are open to events for the entire community. our main program is our after school program, but other events that we commonly hold are St. Patricks Day Kid's fair, Emergency Preparedness Events, Town Hall Meetings against Underage Drinking and more. |

What is all of that construction outside? Smysor has generously donated the money to build a park in our former parking lot. |

The Murphysboro Youth and Recreation Center is powered largely by volunteers, a volunteer board and community volunteers. |

The mission of the Murphysboro Youth & Recreation Center (MYRC) is to provide a safe environment for youth and their families by building strong, healthy relationships that encourage and promote positive citizenship for our community.
The center offers a wide variety of activities and new programs are continually added to reach out to other audiences. MYRC is also used by a number of community and school groups including:
- Key Club
- Jackson County 4-H
- Girl Scouts
- Builder's Club
- Immanuel Luthern School
- Pate Chapel Church
MYRC Goals
- To provide positive mentoring opportunities
- To promote an environment for youth and their families that encourages community collaboration to reduce substance abuse and violence
- To provide positive interpersonal relationships
- To achieve a self-sufficient facility through grant opportunities, facility rental, fundraising events, and community donations

Pick up some extra bread for your family courtesy of the Church of Christ, Panera Bread's "Day-End Dough-Nation" Program, Jackson County 4-H Program, Jackson County U of I Extension, City of Murphysboro and the MYRC!
Support MYRC!
The Youth & Recreation Center is under the direction of a board of directors and the organization is recognized as a 501(c)3 charitable organization. The organization also sponsors a youth board. MYRC's primary source of revenue is grants, gifts, and building rental. Recent grants include a $2,000 gift from the St. Louis Cardinals and a $1,000 grant from Wal-Mart.
MYRC is available for rental for private and group events, such as baby showers, family reunions, meetings, wedding receptions, and more. (No alcohol allowed) Currently MYRC is also available for rent for birthday parties for ages 12 and under. All income from rentals go to support youth programs and resources needed for further growth of MYRC programs.

* Rates for Saturday events vary depending on the length of time used and anticipated number of individuals in attendance. For private parties/for-profit groups wishing to host an event on Saturday, base rates begin at $100/half day and $150/full day.
If the building is available the night before a scheduled event, access is available to set-up for $25.00
