Drums at Appletime

Written by

WHEN:  Saturday September 19, 2015, 4:30 pm-9:00 pm

WHERE:  Murphysboro High School E.L. 'Doc' Bencini Football Field

Sponsored by:  Republic Services, WPSD Channel 6, and The Southern Illinoisan

No one can resist the lure of a marching band as evidenced by the popularity of Drums at Appletime. The bands are always a favorite during the parade, and Drums at Appletime has remained a major event of the Festival as attendance is a near sell-out crowd every year.

The bands competing have changed from the professional groups, such as the Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps, to high school marching bands, but the level of competition has not.

Murphysboro's own Crimson Express began exhibiting in the field show in 1990 and has gone on to win many major competitions throughout the United States and Canada in their almost 25 years of existance. They continue to host this annual event and showcase the talents of its members in exhibition at the end of the night.
