2014 Theme: A Grand Past, A Bright Future

Starting August 4th, 2014, the Apple Festival Staff will be available Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, inside the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce Office at 203 South 13th Street (The Hamilton House). The Murphysboro Apple Festival Committee has arranged for handicapped parking to be available during the Festival. There are four spaces available on the west side of Regions Bank and five spaces available on the south side. These spaces will be available after 4 pm Wednesday through Friday and all day Saturday during the Apple Festival. Special thanks to Jeff Streuter of Regions Bank for his help with this accommodation.

Stop in to the Historic Liberty Theater during the Apple Festival to watch movies filmed in Murphysboro in 1926 and 1938. Also showing on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, "The Civil War Touches Southern Illinois: A Portrait of General John A. Logan," music and narration written by long-time Murphysboro resident, Ken Carr, video produced by Caleb Gomes of Marion. and music performed by the John A. Logan Community College Band and Orchestra, under the direction of Michael Hanes.

The Murphysboro Apple Festival is the oldest and largest alcohol free festival in southern Illinois. Over 45,000 people attend the festival each year. During the four days of the Apple Festival there are numerous activities drawing large crowds, such as evening stage shows, carnival/concessions, Queen Contest, Prince and Princess Contest, contests from Apple Pie Eating to marching band competition, car show, Appletime 5K Walk/Run and much more…

 In addition, the festival's Grand Parade is considered by most to be the largest parade in southern Illinois. The parade features an average of about 160 total units, 25 of those marching bands, and a variety of groups and organizations.
