Tower Rock and Devil's Backbone in Grand Tower.
There are lots of secluded wineries scattered around Murphysboro with various small, out of the way marts/businesses offering cheese sandwiches (e.g., Pomona Natural Bridge), bluegill sandwiches with a cold beer (e.g., the Bottoms Up at Nuenert, IL), etc.
The view off the west side of Fountain Bluff.
The Smysor Fountain. People spend time there, respect the work, get married next to it, and the city maintains it properly. Who knows . . . maybe someday Murphysboro will be second to only Kansas City in number of fountains per capita!
The Shawnee National Forest makes for great hiking, biking, and horseback riding in the late fall and early spring. Of course there are hunting activities allowed throughout other times of the year.
 The Salt Petre Cave.
The people of Murphysboro make it special. They are kind and considerate. They are willing to help those in need and to work hard to make their community better. Volunteerism at its best!
The Murphysboro Clarkes Vintage Base Ball Team. As with the Shell and the grandstands, not likely to find one like it near us – yet
 The Liberty Theater.
The Hiking trail off 127 South at the Dutch Ridge Church turn off
The hiking trail head off Buttermilk Hill, as well as the one off the dam.
