How many people attend the Apple Festival each year?
The Apple Festival does not do an official count of attendance. An unofficial estimate is 45,000 over the 5 day event.

I have seen the small red Model T car used by the Apple Festival Prince & Princes at many parades. What is the scoop on this vehicle?
The car was manufactured for the Apple Festival in 2003 in Canada. As you may have noticed the car is not full size (3/4 original). The unit is powered by a 13hp Kohler engine. Top speed about 10mph. One forward speed and no reverse. The unit is transported on its own trailer which will usually be converted to carry a 12' Captain Apple Sauce inflatable as a float unit following the car through a parade. At the end of the parade the inflatable is deflated and the car is loaded back onto the trailer for the trip back home. The car usually visits about 10 parades through the year in communities throughout Southern Illinois.

I noticed some larger carnival rides were removed and not available on Sunday
The Festival contracts with the carnival operator for a specific number of rides. A few of these rides are committed to another event following the Festival and are broken down Saturday night. Generally the rides not available on Sunday are two or three of the larger rides. The number of rides available even after these rides are removed still exceeds the contracted amount. The Festival was able to negotiate for advance sale ride tickets to be good on Saturday of the Festival in consideration of this situation. (In years past advance ride tickets were not valid on Saturday)

Is the Apple Festival put on by the city of Murphysboro?
No, the Apple Festival is presented every year by the Murphysboro Apple Festival Committee, a division of the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce (an independent organization supported by the business community). The Committee works closely with City to present the Festival each year,

The Captain Apple Sauce character is great! Is the costume made locally?
The Festival actually has two Captain Apple Sauce costumes. This allows our super hero to be in two places at once! (although we do have to be careful that the both of him is not in one place at the same time.) The costumes are made in Colorado at a cost of $5500 each. The costumes are usually returned to the manufacturer for repair and updating about every five years.

Where does the money that the Apple Festival raises go?
The Murphysboro Apple Festival is a division of the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce. The monies from the Festival are returned to the Festival to provide for upkeep and growth of the Festival. Many organizations including the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce, Murphysboro Key Club, Kiwanis, Murphysboro Crimson Express and various civic non-profit organizations share profits from the Festival.
